NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) – Police say a 21-year-old man was arrested after residents found a child he was supposed to be babysitting wandering around the neighborhood shoeless.
Authorities say around 6 p.m. on May 31, officers responded to the unit block of Shetland Way in New Castle for a report of a child wandering the neighborhood.READ MORE: 2022 Wawa Welcome America Festival Guide: Road Closures, Public Transportation Information
Police contacted residents who said they found the three-year-old walking on Edinburgh Drive without any shoes.
Officers say the toddler pointed to a home on the 600 block of Helmsdale Circle and said a relative had fallen asleep on the couch.

Within the residence, officers say they found drug paraphernalia and .32 grams of marijuana.
Authorities say the child was eventually turned over to her grandmother.

Authorities say the man was arraigned and released on $2,000 unsecured bail and issued a no contact order.
