Camden County Giving Philly Some Fourth Of July Competition

By David Madden

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) -- You talk Fourth of July and many around here instantly think about the party thrown along the Ben Franklin Parkway. This year, Camden County wants to give Philadelphia a little competition with a free concert featuring one of the biggest musical acts from the late 60's.

The unmistakable mix of hard rock and jazz that put Blood, Sweat and Tears on the map will be offered as the first holiday concert in Wiggins Park along the banks of the Delaware in quite awhile.

Camden County freeholder Jeff Nash says, "Well, we haven't had a big concert in a couple years. It used to be attended by tens of thousands of residents. We were able to hold the line on some other budget items."

Much like the closing night of "Welcome America," you don't have to live in Camden County to come out to this party, which ends with a fireworks display with the Philadelphia skyline in the background.

Not to mention a far easier exit to get home afterward.
