Driver Killed After Truck Crashes Into Montco High School

By Steve Patterson

LOWER MORELAND, Pa. (CBS) — Authorities say the driver is dead after a pickup truck crashed through Lower Moreland High School Saturday afternoon.

It happened just before 2 p.m. at the school on the 500 block of Red Lion Road in Montgomery County.

The driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was identified as Filipe Andre Pinto Silva, 32.

Witnesses say they watched the driver accelerate with no sign of breaking or slowing down, until he plowed through the wall of the school. A maintenance supply room was on the other side of the wall.

Police say the driver died at the scene from his injuries.

Hundreds of people were inside the school at the time of the accident preparing for a fundraiser musical, including the school's janitor, Dan Fox, who was inside the maintenance room moments before the incident and says he's lucky to be alive:

"If I was in there I would have been gone, no question."

Power was also cut from the school following the accident.

Crews were still on the scene Saturday evening trying to figure out how to remove the truck that was still lodged into the school.

There's no word yet whether or not school will be open on Monday. That will be determined Sunday.

An investigation into how this all happened continues.
