New Military Veterans' Memorial Being Unveiled at Hatboro-Horsham H.S.

By Jim Melwert

Horsham, Pa. (CBS) -- A monument to military veterans will be unveiled this evening at Hatboro-Horsham High School this evening, with a parade and concert.

The school's director of choral activities, Bill Naydan, came up with the idea for a veterans' monument at the high school as he toured through Europe with American Music Abroad, visiting tributes to American soldiers.

"It dawned on me that we didn't have any in my community," he tells KYW Newsradio.  "My parents were émigrés who were displaced by the Nazis in World War II, and given their freedoms through the efforts of the Allied forces."

The monument is funded completely by donations, and Naydan says the goal was to honor all branches of the military.  It includes a quote from president Harry Truman:  "Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid."

Everyone –- especially veterans and military members -- are invited to the dedication and unveiling, which begins at 6pm this evening at Hatboro-Horsham High School, 899 Horsham Road, in Hatboro. The event will be held rain or shine.
