PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Teenage fugitive Haseem Singletary has turned himself in to police.
The 16-year-old was accompanied by his family and lawyer, Bill Brennan, when he walked into Southwest Detectives late Thursday night.
The teen has been wanted since Wednesday when he escaped from private contractors that were hired to transport him from Florida to Philadelphia.
“Although he’s a kid — 16 years old — he was smart enough to realize that this was the right thing to do and he did it. Frankly he should be commended at least for surrendering,” Brennan says.
Police say Singletary has a long criminal record. He was wanted by authorities for crimes including home invasion and armed robbery.
Singletary’s brother, who accompanied him Thursday night, is former Philadelphia Traffic Court judge Willie Singletary.
