Investigation Continues Into Shooting That Left Child Injured In West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The investigation continues into a shooting that police say left a young girl injured Saturday night in West Philadelphia.
"She's eight-years-old, she didn't deserve it, she didn't. She's an innocent child," said her mother.
For the first time the parents of the eight-year-old are talking about the incident.
Saturday night at 53rd and Haverford Avenue in West Philadelphia, the girl was in the back seat when police say someone in a passing car shot out the rear window.
The small caliber bullet lodged in her head, fracturing her skull.
"My daughter, she's making progress, but she's in pain."
Her three-year-old step sister and her four-year-old sister were also in the back seat. They were not hurt.
The shooting happened just after 9 p.m.
The girls were in the back seat, the eight-year-old's mom and her boyfriend were in the front. He had double parked.
Police believe two people in a dark colored sedan got upset about traffic being blocked and one of them decided to shoot into the rear window.
"But it is a child. It could have been worse, my daughter could have been dead," said the girl's father.
The eight-year-old was last listed in critical condition but she is expected to make a full recovery.
CBS 3 Eyewitness News is told doctors are set to perform surgery Wednesday to try to remove the bullet from her head.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact them immediately.
