Officials: 3 Dead In Chester County Fire

WEST CALN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) -- Authorities say three people were found dead following a fire in Chester County.

Officials say the fire broke out just after 12 p.m. Monday.

Chopper 3 was over the scene of the blaze on the 300 block of Hill Road in West Caln Township.

Neighbors tell CBS 3 Eyewitness News that the matriarch of this family died Sunday night and today three women who came to grieve her were killed in the fire.

"Crews went to work immediately. Upon fighting the fire we found that we had three victims inside. At that point we continued to extinguish the blaze," said Wagontown Fire Company Chief Todd Ziegler.

A neighbor who didn't want to be identified says a family member told her the fire started on the front porch.

"She said that her two aunts and her cousin were killed in the fire because they couldn't get out through the hole that the uncle and the children got out of in the back of the house. And she said that the uncle tried to rip open an opening for them but that they refused to jump."

Police tell Eyewitness News two men and two children were able to escape the fire.

The identity of the family and the relationship to each other has not been released.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The Chester County Fire Marshal is investigating.

Fire investigators from Chester County Police and State Police are involved in the investigation.
