Broad Street Runners Get Their Numbers And Their Mojo For Sunday's Event

By Pat Loeb

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- One of the exciting preliminaries for Broad Street Run participants is picking up their race numbers beforehand at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

The two-day event began at 11 this morning, and there was a already a long line waiting when the doors opened.

There was also a wall where runners could post why they run (photo below).

"I wrote, 'I love running,' " said Omar.

With 40,000 runners entered in the ten-mile race this Sunday, the number pickup area was sure to be busy all weekend.

And, since entrants often bring along friends and family for the lead-up events, the city's Recreation Department is promoting this year's event as the "Not Just For Runners Expo."

"It's pretty cool. You get free ice cream," noted Daniel, who was there with his younger brother and their mom, Shannon, who will be running her fourth Broad Street.

"I really want to beat my two hours," she confided today.

They were trying the free samples put out by vendors.  There was also live music, face painting, balloon animals, and lots of space.

"That's always good for three-year-olds," said Jill, who was there with her twin sons.
