Renting A Limo For Prom Night

By Amy E. Feldman

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Prom season is underway, and you're probably picturing yourself as the main character in a fairy tale. And given the cost of a limo rental, you'd certainly be hoping for a fairy godmother to turn a pumpkin into a coach for you.

If you don't have a fairy godmother, here's what you need to know about your legal responsibilities before you rent a limo.

First, you'll have to sign a contract. Read it carefully for the cancellation policy or you may have to pay the full fee even if your date gets cold feet.

Many limo companies won't rent to minors but require parental signatures - which means mom and dad are on the hook for the whole ticket.

If groups of friends are going together, make sure everyone pays his share up front or you'll be stuck with the bill later.

Make sure the limo is licensed and insured - and ask to see a copy of the insurance up front.

Don't bring drugs or alcohol. It's a violation of limo rules and the law.

And, if you get pulled over, you'll still have to pay for the limo but your evening will end well before the stroke of midnight.
