Police Identify Delivery Driver Shot And Killed In Crescentville

By Dan Wing, Steve Patterson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police have identified the Chinese food delivery driver that was shot and killed Thursday night in the Crescentville section of the city.

Police say 49-year old Rendong Zheng of North Philadelphia was killed shortly after 10:30pm, while making a delivery for New China Restaurant to an apartment complex on Hillcreek Park.

Authorities say at least a dozen shots were fired, with one of them striking Zheng in the shoulder. He tried to drive away, but crashed through a fence after passing out. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital a short time later. Speaking with CBS 3 Eyewitness News, business owners in the area expressed their sorrow and concern.

"It's surprising because everybody knows him," said Marie Hightower. "He's knows our orders. We walk in and he knows what we want. So it is surprising, and it's sad."

They also say they now fear for their own employees.

"It's tough, as you know. That's bad. I don't like that," said Isam Rafeh. "Especially, I have driver here and I tell him be careful always."

Police say they are reviewing surveillance video from the area in hopes of finding a lead. A $20,000 reward is being offered by the city for information that leads to an arrest.
