New Charges Added Against Son Accused of Shooting Father in Car on Schuylkill Expressway

By Jim Melwert

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (CBS) -- A man accused of shooting his father from the back seat of the car as it traveled along the Schuylkill Expressway in rush-hour traffic is now facing attempted murder in addition to several other charges.

At a preliminary hearing today in front of district justice William Maruszczak in King of Prussia, attempted murder was added to the list of charges against Kymere Corbin.

That's in addition to eleven charges already filed, including three felony counts.  Corbin is accused of shooting his father from the back seat of the car while they were heading west on the Schuylkill Expressway, near the Conshohocken exit, earlier this month.

Defense attorney Benjamin Cooper says he hopes a deal could be reached based on the mental health background of his client.

"We want to be able to examine the history of the relationship he had with his parents, why he was in the car that day, what happened in the car that day, and why," Cooper tells KYW Newsradio.

In exchange for the defense agreeing to allow the extra charge, the Commonwealth has agreed to reduce Corbin's bail to $250,000, to get him out of maximum security.  Also, his mother will be allowed to visit.  She had been barred from doing so as she is a witness in the case.
