Vigil Held For Boy Who Died Following Hit And Run In Kensington

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Nearly five days later and the case goes on.

The painful emotions that come along with it still were still raw Friday on the street where it happened.

David Alicea's grandmother joined a few dozen members of preschool David was set to attend next year, holding an impromptu vigil for the two-year-old.

"You have periods where you're feel like you're doing better, and periods where you feel like you're doing worse."

John Lavery runs that daycare and spoke with the family this morning. He says they're trying to keep their spirits up and were happy about this morning's breakthrough.

Eyewitness News was the first to show you the car police say was used in the hit and run, after its owners turned it in this morning.

Police say they had lent it to the 19-year-old suspect in this case and didn't notice damage to its front end when he returned it.

Captain John Wilcsynski says, "Then they started putting two and two together and said wait, this could be the car."

So they brought the car to police this morning and told them who was driving it. It's progress that David's mother Josie is thankful for, as she prepares funeral arrangements for her young son.

Lavery says, "She wants the police to have made the case and be able to know that there's going to be prosecution. But again they know that takes time."

A family friend, Maria Lizardi, says, "They have to have justice in this situation, because it's not fair."

The family plans on holding a vigil for the young child Friday evening and again on Sunday afternoon.
