Iron Pigs GM Responds To Anti-Bacon Pressure Group: 'Who Doesn't Love Bacon?'

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Everyone loves bacon. Well, everyone except the Physicians Committee.

The non-profit committee, which consists of 12,000 physicians, wants the Lehigh Valley IronPigs to add broccoli and a broccoli mascot.

"Who doesn't love bacon?" said Iron Pigs GM Kurt Landes, Wednesday on the 94WIP Morning Show. "They sent me a love letter asking us to remove bacon from our menu and to include a new mascot to the pork race called Brock Lee. That would be a stalk of broccoli, correct."

The Iron Pigs feature a bacon hat, a mascot named Chris P. Bacon, and two locations in the ballpark called the "Pig Pen" and "The Bacon Strip."

Landes says they are actually going to take the advice and add broccoli to the menu---broccoli with bacon!

"Here at the Iron Pigs, we listen to everybody," Landes said. "And in fact, what we're gonna do is, we're going to add broccoli to our menu. What we're gonna do is we're going to add deep fried bacon broccoli cheese bites!

"We don't want to be accused of not listening," he continued. "We want to add broccoli to our menu. Bacon and broccoli together, it might be another healthy option for our fans at the ballpark this year."

Maybe 94WIP's Glen Macnow and Landes should get together sometime. Macnow should try some of the Iron Pigs' bacon items for his bacon hunt.

"We're all about bacon," said Landes. "Come up and see us sometime. I'll have bacon on a stick ready for you. I'll even have the pork parfait, which is a great mixture of hot cheese, mashed potatoes, and pulled pork. That's another great items for our fans this year."
