PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The World Meeting of Families Philadelphia has hired a major production company based here in the city to help put together to big events for the visit of Pope Francis on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway this fall.

ESM Productions led by Scott Mirkin will be responsible for the Saturday, Sept. 26 Festival of Families, which will include an appearance by the Pope, and the Pontiff’s Sunday, Sept. 27 mass in front of the Art Museum.

Bob Ciaruffoli, president and chairman of the World Meeting of Families, says Mirkin’s experience with such big events as Made In America and the Fourth of July festivities on the Parkway made him a natural for the job.

“To pull off something of that magnitude you need somebody who’s been there, done that, been involved in major events before and Scott and his team have done it multiple times.”

He says the company also will be responsible for giant video screens and sound as well as other logistics to handle the crowds expected at more than a million for each event.
