Pa. House To Consider Its Own Property Tax Relief Plan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The state House majority leader says that chamber will consider its own school property tax relief measure soon, and not as part of the budget package as proposed by Governor Wolf.
As part of his budget package, Governor Wolf has proposed raising the state income and sales taxes to reduce school property taxes. But House Majority Leader Dave Reed, an Indiana County Republican, says the House will soon consider its own property tax relief plan, the details of which are being hammered out by a group of 30 members:
"We are hopeful that the members who have talked about property tax reform – Republican, Democrat, House, Senate and even the governor – are serious about actually moving a property tax reform proposal forward, but I would rather find out sooner rather than later."
Reed says he expects the House's proposal, which would raise new revenue for property tax relief only and not for any new spending, will be vetted by committee in the coming weeks and then scheduled for a floor vote in the not too distant future after that.
