Isaiah Canaan To Miss Remainder Of Season

By Ray Boyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On Tuesday, the Sixers announced that point guard Isaiah Canaan would miss the remainder of the season with a right foot sprain. Canaan was acquired by the Sixers at the trade deadline in a deal that sent K.J. McDaniels to Houston.

The Sixers have four games remaining on the schedule and will be down to one pure point guard on the roster in Ish Smith.

Canaan has appeared in 22 games (12 starts) since joining the Sixers in February. Since coming to Philadelphia, he's averaged 12.6 points, 3.1 assists and 2.5 rebounds in just under 26 minutes per game.

Canaan came to the Sixers with a reputation as a long range threat and he's followed through shooting 36.4% from beyond the arc.

With no more games left to impress his new team, Canaan will have to sit back and wait to see if he will be a part of the Sixers' plans going into next season. He is under contract with the club through next season, but with the Sixers roster typically in flux, no one's spot on the team is ever entirely secure.

With cap space and an expected wide collection of draft picks, the Sixers could conceivably replace Canaan if they so choose.

Canaan's obvious strength is shooting the ball from the perimeter and with Nerlens Noel expected to team up down low with Joel Embiid, the Sixers will need a collection of shooters to fill out their lineups next season.

Canaan has proven that he is more than capable of stretching the floor to create room for the big men to work down low.
