Phillies Opening Day Had Special Moments Despite The Loss
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- At least the weather cooperated for a sellout crowd at the ballpark, but the home team lived up to its low expectations.
Fans said that while home openers are always special, this one lacked a bit of the zip from previous years.
"It's going to be a rough year," said one Phillies fan.
Regardless of the expectations, these are Phillies fans, who point out the optimism is kind of the charm of Opening Day
Another fan added "just excited the season started. It's been a long winter. You got to have hope."
There are always some special moments on Opening Day. The 10-year-old son of murdered Philadelphia Police Officer Robert Wilson III was recognized with a standing ovation.
Fans also cheered on 8-year-old Kyle Shanahan who suffers from spinal bifida. Shanahan threw out one of the ceremonial first pitches. He says he put in a lot of prep work. "Practicing throwing it to my dad," Shanahan said as he described how he prepared.
He added that the fastball is his go-to pitch.
