Pulse Of Philly Podcast: Over/Under 40 Catches For Miles Austin?

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- I say new Eagles wideout Miles Austin has over 40 catches in 2015. Eliot Shorr-Parks says no way.

"If everything goes to the Eagles plan, everything works out how they wanted to, I think Miles Austin will maybe catch 15 passes," Shorr-Parks said Friday on the Pulse Of Philly podcast.

"Oh wow," I responded. "I will say over 40 catches for Miles Austin."

"OK, I will definitely take that bet with you," he said. "You think they're going to put him in over Riley Cooper, Jordan Matthews, Josh Huff, and a rookie they take in the draft?"

"I think over Cooper and Huff without a doubt and I think Matthews plays the slot," I responded. "I think you're looking at Miles Austin, Jordan Matthews, and a rookie being their top three pass catchers."

Miles Austin has tallied over 40 catches in five his last six seasons, catches more than 65 balls three times. In 2014, Austin had 47 catches in just 12 games with the lowly Cleveland Browns. And we know what Chip Kelly does on offense.

Both DeSean Jackson (82) and Jeremy Maclin (85) had their highest-catch totals over the last two seasons, respectively, under Kelly. Not to mention, rookie Jordan Matthews caught 67 balls in 2014, 5th in the NFL among all first-year wide receivers.

In 2014, the Eagles led the NFL in plays run (1,127) and plays per game (70.4). Someone is going to have to replace Maclin's production and I'm certainly not betting on Cooper.
