What's Cooking on 1060: Philadelphia's New Springtime Restaurants

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A fourth Tria restaurant has opened, this one at 2227 Pine Street, facing venerable Fitler Square.

Owner Jon Myerow (top photo) says a new menu of hot foods and desserts will join their regular stable of beers, cheeses, and wines.

"We're going to have seven rotating mini-entrées, ranging from fish to pasta to chicken to meat.  It will be very comfort-food-like," he tells What's Cooking.

A new vegetable-centric BYOB restaurant has opened in the Kensington section of Philadelphia.

Mike Griffiths, co-owner of Helm, at 1303 North Fifth Street, says the menu is constantly changing.

"We're two weeks outside of spring," he noted recently, "where everything starts to pop up in the woods, where we would go out and forage ourselves, and things like that."

And the focus, Griffiths says, is the vegetables.

"You see all those proteins?  They're accents to the vegetables.  So that chicken dish is based around the cabbage," he explained.

And in nearby Northern Liberties, Heritage ("Restaurant, Urban Garden, and Jazz Bar") has just opened, at 914 North Second Street.

"Our whole menu is centered around sharable items," says co-owner Jason Evenchik.

And he says they're quite serious about their urban gardening.

"On the rooftop, we're going to grow a garden that's going to give us micro-greens -- turnips, carrots, lettuces, kale, all that sort of stuff."
