I-95 Lane And Ramp Closures Scheduled Next Week In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Interstate 95 motorists will encounter overnight travel restrictions next week for construction at the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) and Girard Avenue interchanges in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced Thursday.

PennDOT says the construction is associated with improvement projects underway to rebuild the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) and Girard Avenue interchanges and to reconstruct and widen more than three miles of I-95 adjoining the interchanges.

On Monday, April 6 through Wednesday April 8, PennDOT says I-95 north will be reduced from three lanes to two between New State Road and Rhawn Street at the Cottman Avenue Interchange from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the resetting of concrete barriers.

On Monday, April 6 through Friday, April 10, PennDOT says two of the three lanes on I-95 south will be closed between the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) and Bridge Street interchanges from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for pavement repair in the work zone.

On Monday, April 6 through Saturday, April 11, PennDOT says the I-95 north off-ramp to Cottman Avenue (Route 73) will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for ramp construction and work on the center section of I-95 over the ramp. Motorists will be detoured north on I-95 to the Academy Road Interchange, then right on Linden Street to State Road, and right on State Road back to Cottman Avenue (Route 73), according to PennDOT.

On Thursday, April 9, PennDOT says I-95 south will be reduced to one lane between the Girard Avenue and Interstate 676 interchanges from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for construction of an overhead sign structure.

On Friday, April 10, PennDOT says I-95 south will be restricted to two lanes and I-95 will be reduced to one lane between the Girard Avenue and I-676 interchanges from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for sign structure construction. PennDOT says northbound and southbound I-95 traffic also will be stopped periodically for 15-minute intervals on Saturday, April 11 from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m. to allow crews to lift the overhead sign structure and secure it in place.

PennDOT says I-95 motorists should expect slow moving traffic and delays entering the work zones. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
