GLASSBORO, NJ (CBS) – Police officers in Glassboro are now equipped with body cameras.

The cameras are designed to provide higher levels of professionalism and accountability.

The cameras were carefully selected during a trial period and will be required for all officers moving forward.

That means all contact with citizens, including motor vehicle stops and field interviews, will now be recorded.

Officers say it will benefit police work.

“I welcome it, I think it’s going to be a great advantage for us as police,” says Cpl. Mindy Knight. “It will get rid of all that ‘he said, she said,’ because it’s going to be right there on video. The camera doesn’t lie.”

There are some situations when the body cameras may be turned off by the officer, including sexual assault and domestic violence investigations, as well as medical emergencies.

The new requirement went into effect on April 1st.
