Philadelphia Bike Share Program Begins In April

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Officials in Philadelphia say the city's bike share program will begin next month.

Mayor Michael Nutter says the system will launch at noon on April 23rd with an event at Eakins Oval featuring music, brief remarks and a ceremonial ride.

Officials say the program sponsored will include 600 bicycles with a network of 70 docking stations around the city that will operate 24 hours a day all year.

Bike share users will be able to get a bike at any station and return it to any other station by using a member card or a credit or debit card.

Nutter said in a statement that "Great cities provide residents, commuters, and visitors with great transportation and recreation options."

Independence Blue Cross is the title sponsor of the program dubbed "Indego."
