Steve Forbes: Donald Trump Is A Friend, And He Is Serious About Potential Presidential Run

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Former Republican presidential candidate and Chairman & Editor-In-Chief of Forbes Media, Steve Forbes told Talk Radio 1210 WPHT morning host Chris Stigall that he thinks that his friend, Donald Trump, is being serious about his possible presidential run and is far from what he is being portrayed as by the media.

"The media portrays him as just grabbing publicity, but I think he is taking a serious look at it and looking at all of the pros and cons."

While Trump is still deciding his future, almost the entire field has yet to be officially determined, and the 1996 and 2000 presidential candidate is looking ahead to see what happens in the next couple of months.

"What you're going to see in the next couple of months is candidates formally declare -- is that they're going to have to put on the table substantive measures about how they're going to get America moving again. Which is one of the reasons why we set up Americans for Hope, Growth, and Opportunity (AHGO), was to push three big issues: the big one being the flat tax, another one being a sound dollar -- get the Federal Reserve out of the business of manipulation -- and the final one being of course patient control of health care."

Even though AHGO will not be endorsing any candidates, Forbes feels these issues, like strengthening the dollar, are too important to not try and raise support for. He points to restricting the powers of the Federal Reserve as one way to "get this country moving."

"The Federal Reserve has done enormous damage to the U.S. Economy. They've created a lot of this money, and then they go tell the regulators and in effect tell the banks, 'Don't go out and lend it.' So, what you have is the government gets cheap money, large companies get cheap money, but small and new businesses and many medium-sized businesses have uncertain lines of credit, which means we don't get the vigorous job creation we've had in the past. "
