NFL GM: Marcus Mariota Is Going 'Second Overall'

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- We're about one month away from the NFL Draft and it's time we check-in on our buddy Marcus Mariota.

While some of Philadelphia is still holding onto hope that Mariota, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, joins the Eagles and reunites with his former Oregon coach Chip Kelly. Unfortunately for some, the likelihood of that happening seems to be decreasing.

According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, one NFL GM said, "[Mariota is] going second overall. I don't know to which team, but he's going second overall."

"After spending more time around team executives," La Canfora continued in his report, "including some who have at least a moderate interest in perhaps making a move up to get him, the strong sense I continue to get is he's not getting past the second overall pick."

The Titans currently have the No. 2 overall pick in the draft and they do need a quarterback. The Eagles, of course, own pick No. 20 in the first-round, but head coach Chip Kelly has explained multiple times that he's not willing to mortgage the future for one player.

"Philosophically I want to keep all of our draft picks," Kelly said on Wednesday at the NFL owners meetings. "I think you build your team through the draft. So if you you gut yourself for one year and for one guy, philosophically I don't think that is the right thing to do."
