PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Former Congressman and current Fox News analyst Colonel Allen West told Talk Radio 1210 WPHT midday host Dom Giordano that he feels that the charges against former American soldier Bowe Bergdahl by the Army is far from what the Obama administration was hoping for and is contrary to their narrative much of what they have said about him since his return last year.

“You have an administration that did not want this proper narrative to come out which is that Bowe Bergdahl left his sensitive items (weapon, night vision devices and body armor) and he shipped back his personal effects to his home and he deserted his post. He left his assigned place of duty on that combat outpost and six Americans lost their lives trying to recover him. That’s the story and that’s why you saw those charges: desertion, misbehavior before the enemy, and detrimental effects upon a platoon and an organization, which the second charge is even more heinous than the first one.”

West feels that much of the mainstream media are trying to “paint him as a victim,” but West thinks that he just suffered the consequences of his actions.

“Bowe Bergdahl would not have been in the hands of the Taliban if he had not walked off of his combat outpost. So, he made the decision and therefore the consequences of those decisions were as such. They need to answer this question: They don’t keep anyone that falls into their hands, any of our troops, more than five hours, They’re beheaded. They’re ritually gutted. They’re murdered. Why did they keep him for five years?”

He is looking forward to hearing about the details that may answer that question and many others that he has during the upcoming hearing.

He also believes that “the administration wanted this to quietly go away” with the releasing of the ‘Taliban 5’ from Qatar in a few months.
