Activists Dog Philadelphia Fundraiser For Gov. Christie, Pushing For Mandatory Sick Leave Laws

By Mark Abrams

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- New Jersey activists joined their counterparts in Philadelphia today to push the issue of mandatory sick leave for low-wage workers to the presidential level.

A small group of demonstrators set up outside the Union League, on South Broad Street at Sansom, to demand that the sick leave issue be elevated to the presidential campaign level.

Their target: New Jersey governor Chris Christie, who is weighing a presidential run and was taking part tonight in a political action committee fundraiser in the Union League.

"He's been clear about his opposition.  He's been saying it all around the state, at events as he travels," noted Dena Mottola Jaborska, from New Jersey Citizen Action.

Jaborska (holding microphone in photo) says it's a bipartisan issue that is gaining traction in communities, state capitols, and in Washington, DC.

"It's not just that I think it should be an issue for the presidential (races), it's that people do," she said.  "I mean, people want this. The poll after President Obama's State of the Union address had people at 88 percent public support."
