1 American Killed In Germanwings Plane Crash Attended Drexel University

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- One of the American victims of the Germanwings plane crash attended Philadelphia's Drexel University.

Emily Selke graduated with honors from Drexel, earning a music industry degree two years ago from the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design.

Inside the URBN Center on the Drexel University campus, there were tears and hugs among those who knew and taught Emily Selke as they learned the 2013 graduate, along with her mother Yvonne,were among the 150 victims who died in the crash of a German Wings Airline flight from Barcelona, Spain to Dusseldorf, Germany on Tuesday.

Selke had been employed at Carr Workplaces in Alexandria, Virginia and during her studies at Drexel, she was active as vice president of a campus chapter of a national service sorority Gamma Sigma Sigma.

A Facebook post on the Gamma Sigma Sigma Zeta Chapter sorority page urges prayers for Emily Selke, and her mother.

The Selke family released the following statement:

"Our entire family is deeply saddened by the losses of Yvonne and Emily Selke. Two wonderful, caring, amazing people who meant so much to so many. At this difficult time we respectfully ask for privacy and your prayers."

Drexel University released the following statement:

"Drexel is deeply saddened to hear about the tragic loss of alumna Emily Selke and her mother. Emily graduated with honors from Drexel in 2013 and was a music industry major in Drexel's Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends."
