WARMINSTER, Pa. (CBS) — A Bucks County High School Social Studies teacher is free on bail after being charged with engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a female student and planning to meet her at a Bensalem hotel for sex.

Warminster Township police charged 33-year-old Michael Swider of Upper Southampton with institutional sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor and related offenses for a relationship that began this month with an 18-year-old student at William Tennent High School where he is a teacher.

He was released on $5,000 bail following arraignment before a Bristol magistrate.

Court documents say the relationship began earlier this month with kissing inside his classroom after school and meetings outside of school, including at a local coffee shop.

The charging documents state the two also engaged in conversations of a sexual nature by way of email and were preparing to meet Tuesday at a Street Road motel for sex.

Police confronted Swider Monday night after receiving a tip over the weekend about the relationship.
