Members Of Russian Punk Band Discuss Art, Activism During Philadelphia Visit

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Russian activists and punk rockers Pussy Riot were in Philadelphia Tuesday night talking about art and activism.

KYW's Justin Udo went to their lecture.

Most people know Pussy Riot from their controversial video that gained global attention.

"In August 2012 they were sentenced to two years imprisonment following an anti-Putin performance in Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Savior."

The female duo talked to a packed auditorium at the University of Pennsylvania about the infamous video that landed them in jail as well as their latest song called "I Can't Breathe,"which highlights the Ukraine crisis, Russian politics and Eric Garner.

"If we came from prison and just did the same stuff as we did before it's not punk. When you always move when you always try to understand what form of art should be applied in exact situation you are punk and also you are activist."
