Penn Names Steve Donahue Head Basketball Coach
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On Monday, the University of Pennsylvania announced that they were naming Steve Donahue as their new head basketball coach. Donahue is set to be introduced in a press conference on Tuesday.
Donahue takes over the program following the departure of Jerome Allen.
Donahue, the 20th head coach in the school's history, is a native of Delaware County and will be returning to Penn where he served as an assistant for Fran Dunphy from 1990 to 2000.
After coaching at Penn, Donahue became the head coach at Cornell where he stayed for 10 years. He then left Cornell and was named head coach at Boston College where he spent four years.
Donahue most recently served as an analysts for college basketball on several networks.
His roots run deep in the area. Before coming to Penn, Donahue served as an assistant for Herb Magee at Philadelphia University. Donahue also spent time coaching at Monsignor Bonner High School and Springfield High School.
Donahue also graduated from Ursinus where competed in baseball and basketball.
Penn finished this past season at 9-19 good for 8th place in the Ivy League.
