Super Bowl Of Soccer Coming To Philadelphia In July
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football, or CONCACAF, will be bringing the 2015 Gold Cup Championship to Philadelphia and Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, July 26, CONCACAF announced at a press conference on Thursday at the Linc.
"I've said a number of times, Philadelphia is the greatest sports city in the country," Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter said. "Philadelphia is the only city in the United States of America that has all four professional teams playing within a half-mile of each other, and one of only two in the country that have all four playing in the city. This is a sports town, Philadelphians will argue about anything related to sports, and this is an international event for the city and will bring people to the city. All eyes will be on Philadelphia."
There will be 12 countries involved, with the final weekend taking place, with the third-fourth place game on Saturday, July 25 at PPL Park in Chester, and the 2015 Gold Cup on Sunday, July 26, at Lincoln Financial Field.
The countries involved include Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago and the United States.
The round-robin tournament will go throughout July and include 13 cities, starting in Dallas and Los Angeles on July 7-8 and concluding in Philadelphia the weekend of July 25-26.
