Larry Bowa: 'Will Ferrell Best At First Base'

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Stay classy!

Will Ferrell---aka Run Burgundy, or Chazz, or Frank The Tank, or whichever popular movie character you prefer---will try his attempt at Major League Baseball.

Ferrell will play all nine positions for 10 different teams on Thursday. The gig is for a new HBO special from "Funny Or Die" done in partnership with Major League Baseball, to raise money in the fight against cancer. Ferrell is honoring Bert Campaneris, who became the first player to play every position in a Major League game in 1965.

"I would think first base, because he likes to talk and guys get base hits they go down to first," Phillies bench coach Larry Bowa said Thursday on 1210 WPHT with Chris Stigall. "He can rap a little bit with them down there.

"It's great because these guys that are stars, movie stars, they love sports. [Spring Training] is a casual type atmosphere."

Thursday, Ferrell will be at :

  • Mariners-A's at Hohokam Stadium (3:05 p.m.)
  • Cubs-Angels (4:10)
  • Reds-Diamondbacks at Salt River Fields (5:10)
  • Giants-White Sox at Camelback Ranch (7:05)
  • Dodgers-Padres at Peoria Stadium (9:15)
