Holy Family Men's Hoops Looks To Keep On Rolling In CACC Tourney

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The Holy Family University men's basketball team takes on Wilmington University tonight in the semifinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament on the campus of Philadelphia University.

It has already been an outstanding campaign for the Tigers. They are 22-7 after beating Caldwell in the quarterfinals of the tourney over the weekend, 73-69.

"It's been extremely fun because they are a great group of kids to be around on a daily basis," Holy Family head coach R.C. Kehoe tells KYW Newsradio. "But I think it is even more enjoyable because after last season. You lose three all conference players like we did, to be standing here at 22-7, with a chance for an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament and then also still a shot at our first goal, to win our league. So it's exciting and at the same time it's a little bit humbling because we just didn't expect this."

Listen to the entire interview with Holy Family's R.C. Kehoe:

The Tigers are getting a lot of contributions from a lot of different players, but Kehoe says one player in particular is having a really special season.

"Reggie Charles, our point guard," Kehoe says, "a transfer from Shippensburg University, a Philadelphia kid from Father Judge, he's just been terrific and consistent the whole year."

Charles, a redshirt junior, leads the Tigers in scoring at 17.3 points per game and his 5 assists per game is good for second in the conference.

On Friday, the Tigers will face a Wilmington team that is just 10-19, but the Wildcats have proven dangerous this season. They stunned Philadelphia University at the Gallagher Center last month, preventing Herb Magee from winning his 1,000th game as a head coach and they went on the road in the quarterfinals of this tournament and beat the #1 seed in the CACC's North Division, Dominican, 69-67.

"They have really stepped up in big moments and have had no fear," Kehoe says. "A lot of that is based off of their coach. Dan Burke has done a tremendous job there in his first season."

The winner of this game plays the winner of Philly U and Sciences for the CACC title, and an automatic NCAA Tournament bid, on Saturday.

Holy Family and Wilmington will tip-off at approximately 7:00pm at the Gallagher Center.
