7 Students Injured In School Bus-SUV Collision In Delaware

By Steve Beck

SEAFORD, Del. (CBS) -- Seven students were injured during a crash involving a school bus and an SUV in Delaware Monday morning.

The crash happened at about 9:07 a.m. northbound on Sussex Highway (US13) just south of Cannon Road in Seaford.

Investigators say the school bus was stopped at a traffic light and was beginning to proceed forward with the traffic flow when a Chevrolet Equinox, operated by a 17-year-old female, struck the rear of the bus.

Delaware State Police say seven students that were passengers on the bus were later transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital by EMS or parents with non-life-threatening injuries after being evaluated by medical personnel at Seaford High School. The ages of the students ranged from 12-17 years old.

The school bus driver was not injured. Thirty five students were on the bus at the time.

The 17-year-old female driver of the SUV was properly restrained and was uninjured in the collision. She was cited for Careless Driving and Failure to Have Insurance in Possession.
