No Quit In Weekend Winter Weather

By Carol Erickson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- So apparently the weather has a calendar, and when it sees that it is the weekend, it brings on some kind of messy weather event. Every single weekend, the same story. Why should any of us be surprised that this weekend, the unofficial end of hideous winter and the start of meteorological spring, be any different?

February closes out below freezing, of course. What, is this the fifth coldest February on record in Philadelphia? Just about, with temperatures some ten degrees below average.

March 1 arrives, only to act like February 29th, which it sort of is. So the cold continues on Sunday with some "wintry mix," that irritating term for weather that isn't just snow, or just rain, but all forms frozen and in between.

The amounts shouldn't be big -- about a coating or so through Philadelphia as we head into the afternoon, evening and overnight, but that is plenty for slipping. We ought to know that by now. Highs in the lower 30's day and night will warm slightly by Monday, and a whole bunch by Wednesday.

Mid-week looks to be 57 degrees, but it comes with rain. After this winter, rain we will take, with just a few complaints. After all, we're entitled to some complaining. It help keeps us stay warm and sane at the end of a long stretch of too much winter.
