Phillie Phanatic Turns Into Greenery For PHS Flower Show On Saturday

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- For the first time, the Phillie Phanatic will be turned into greenery as he takes center stage at a "Phanatic in the Outfield" display at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Philadelphia Flower Show, "Celebrate the Movies."

To celebrate the occasion, Phoebe Phanatic, the Phanatic's beloved mother, will join fans and the Phillies Ballgirls at the exhibit during the show's opening on Saturday, February 28, 11:00 a.m. at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

  • Designed by the Phillies landscaping crew, the 15x15 floral exhibit will feature a life-size Phillie Phanatic, "grown" with various mosses, green dianthus flowers, and dried larkspur, among others. Also featured in the exhibit is a mini field, meant to replicate the real one at Citizens Bank Park. The entire exhibit features signs of spring, and incorporates the ballpark's landscape, including grass, tulips, pussy willows, monkey puzzle trees, ivy, silver licorice plants, and of course real grass.
  • The exhibit, which will be on display from February 28-March 8, is also part of the Phillies "Red Goes Green" campaign, which features the team's Home Run for Trees campaign, created in support of PHS' Plant One Million campaign.

The PHS Philadelphia Flower Show is the nation's largest and longest-running flower show, which blooms every March at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The show features the world's premier landscape designers and florists, who turn 10 acres of the Convention Center into a fantasy of beautiful plants and cutting-edge designs.
