Rick Santorum: 'Because Of Our Inattentiveness, Iran Is Continuing To Expand Its Reach'

By Dom Giordano

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Dom Giordano spoke with former Pennsylvania Senator and potential Presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT from the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington DC.

Santorum offered to preview his speech to the conference that will focus primarily on foreign policy.

"We're gonna talk about the message that the Republican party has to articulate in order to be successful, whoever the candidate is...Talking about the vision for making sure the Republican party is not just a pro-growth party, or pro-family party, but also a pro-worker party. That will be a piece of my speech. But the biggest part of my speech, actually, I'm going to talk about national security and making sure that we have a very clear vision as to how to confront this, the gathering storm of radical Islam."

He criticized the Obama administration for not adequately dealing with the threat from ISIS.

"They've formed a caliphate and if you look at Muslim teaching, once a caliphate is declared, there is an obligation for those to do jihad and to join the caliphate. They are showing that they are being successful. They're expanding their territory. They have resources because they control oil fields. They are doing horribly, brutal things but a lot of those horrible, brutal things are things that are right out of the Islamic history books as to what was done to expand the caliphate back in the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th centuries. We have leaders who do not understand or choose not to understand and are not explaining to the American public what we are engaged with and why there is some attraction to people all over the world."

Santorum said the President is also on the wrong path in terms of his nuclear negotiations with Iran.

"Because of our inattentiveness or, that's probably the kindest word I could use, ignoring the threat of Iran, in fact, doing worse than that, engaging Iran, now Iran, basically, controls Syria, Damascus, Beirut, Sanaa, which is in Yemen, in addition to Baghdad because of the Shiite government there. Iran is continuing to expand its reach."
