Philadelphia Federation Of Teachers Hosts Mayoral Candidates Forum

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Federation of Teachers held a Mayoral Candidates Forum Wednesday evening as they try and decide which contender to endorse.

PFT president Jerry Jordan says this is an opportunity for members to hear the candidate's views on the challenges facing Philadelphia school children.

"We're very interested of course in their positions on education and everything dealing with education," said Jordan.

Jordan says their focus isn't just on what the candidates say they want to do inside of the classroom, they're interested on their whole platform.

"There are a lot of issues outside of school that have an impact on the students and on the students families as well."

The five candidates got 15 minutes each to share their platform and answer questions.

In the upcoming weeks the PFT will hold meetings for the people running in the City Council race, as they decide who they want to stand behind.
