Cape May-Lewes Ferry Shut Down By Ice, Wind

CAPE MAY, N.J. (AP) -- The Cape May-Lewes Ferry has halted operations because of ice and wind.

The Delaware River and Bay Authority said that conditions on the water have deteriorated and the ferry between New Jersey and Delaware won't run Friday.

Heath Gehrke, the director of ferry operations says that they used another ferry and tug boat to try to break up ice around berthing facilities in Lewes this week.

But he says the bitter cold and wind caused ice conditions that can't be broken through.

The first round trip scheduled for Saturday has been canceled as well, but Gehrke says they hope to restore service this weekend.
