A Center City Pub Readies For 2016 Democratic Convention With a Special Drink

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A local pub is quickly riding the Democratic coattails, celebrating today's DNC announcement that its 2016 convention will be held in Philadelphia, with a donkey-themed drink.

Christopher Mullins, co-owner of McGillin's Olde Ale House, an Irish pub near 13th and Chestnut Streets, calls his newest concoction a "Dublin Donkey."  He describes it as "ginger beer and a shot of Jameson with a taste of lime in it."

"Of course we had to do something," he said today.  "I'm not sure who came up with it -- I think maybe my son -- but it's a twist on a drink called a 'Moscow Mule.' "

What does he think the Democratic National Convention is going to do for business?

"I'm sure it's going to be great for business.  It's going to bring a lot of people in, it's going to be great for our national exposure," he says.

He remebers the last political convention here, when Philadelphia hosted the Republicans.

"The last time there was a convention, in 2000, it was 15 years ago, it was a great boost," Mullins recalls.  "We actually hosted the Colorado delegation here one night for a buyout."

Mullins says stay tuned for more DNC-themed drinks and menu items as the convention approaches.  "We celebrate everything with gusto!"
