Cataldi Endorses Davis For Phillies TV Position: 'Never Met Anyone That Loves Baseball More'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show publicly announced their full support in Ben Davis for the vacant Phillies TV color analyst position on Wednesday morning.

"Ladies and gentleman, after careful consideration," Cataldi announced during the 7:00am hour of his show on Wednesday, "I hereby throw my full support behind Benjamin Davis."

"Thank you, Ang!" Davis, who occasionally co-hosts on the 94WIP Morning Show, replied. "That means a lot, I appreciate that."

Almost two months after Jamie Moyer announced his decision to leave the broadcast booth, MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reported the two finalists to replace Moyer are Davis and former Phillie Kevin Stocker.

"I have enjoyed his worked as an analyst on the Phillies games on Comcast SportsNet," Cataldi said of Davis. "He has done a great job. And I was saying to him last year, Al [Morganti], he grew into the job more he did it because have gave me---he respect me as a fan. And he respect everyone out there because he gives his honest opinion. He doesn't trash people the way I do, Al. He's classier than me, way classier. But if something has gone wrong that he has seen he states it in a polite and interesting manner.

"I'm not afraid to say it publicly," Cataldi continued, "I'm not a young man Al. I believe Ben Davis will be the last color analyst on Phillies games I ever hear, because I believe he's gonna do it."

94WIP Morning Show co-hosts Al Morganti and Rhea Hughes, as well as producer Joseph Weachter, also offered their support in Davis for the Phillies TV analyst position.

"I have never met anyone that loves the game of baseball more than Ben Davis," Cataldi said. "And Ben it comes through every time you talk about that game."

"I do, I love baseball," Davis said. "And a lot of folks have come up to me recently and have said well, 'Ben this is might be a long season. It's gonna be a tough season.' I said, you know what, it's baseball. I love it and you get to watch it everyday and you never know what's going to happen."
