'Preppie Drug Ring' Lieutenant Sentenced to Prison in Montgomery County

By Brad Segall

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A teenager who prosecutors say was the #2 man in the so-called "preppie drug ring" will spend at least nine months in county prison in Montgomery County, after pleading guilty to drug charges and related offenses.

Several people testified on behalf of Timothy Brooks at his sentencing hearing, telling the court the 19-year-old Villanova man has been undergoing treatment for drug and alcohol addiction and has been making great strides.

The judge sentenced Brooks to 9-23 months in prison, followed by five years' probation.  He could get work release after three months.

Despite those positives, prosecutor Tonya Lupinacci says there still needed to be justice.

"We were there today because of the Tim Brooks that was operating a business of selling marijuana to students at high schools and local colleges, and that was the Tim Brooks that needed to be sentenced today," she said.

Brooks helped form the drug ring which had its sights set on creating a drug monopoly along the Main Line.  Authorities arrested eleven people, including two juveniles, last April.
