Discovery Sport SUV Takes On Iceland

By George Polgar

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Vast and barrenly beautiful, Iceland, where the American and European tectonic plates meet in spectacular volcanic and geo thermal fulminations, was invaded recently by an expeditionary force to preview the all new Land Rover Discovery Sport compact SUV.

This invasion of about 1000 boots on the ground, a fleet of new Discovery test models, supplemented by dozens of adventure support vehicles, including some fitted with tank tracks, turned the island into a frozen playground to welcome and demonstrate the capabilities of the newest member of the Land Rover clan. The Discovery Sport certainly carries the DNA for conquering the most extreme driving conditions on earth.

Iceland's challenges underscore the significance of the Discovery revival. The compact SUV class is the fastest growing segment in the US market, and one where Discovery should become a dominant player.

Seizing the initiative with meticulous interior and exterior design, a one-piece steel, boron and aluminum body, and a Si4 2.0 liter direct injected 4 cylinder that jumps off like a V6, the Discovery combines terrain control technology and a new multi-link axle impressively for sporting on-road and off-road capability modestly priced at $37K.
