Poll Shows Gov. Christie's Job Approval Rating At All-Time Low

By Hadas Kuznits

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) -- Results of a new poll indicate that New Jersey governor Chris Christie's job approval rating is down.

Christie's job approval rating has been under 50 percent for a year now, according to Maurice Carroll, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, but continues to deteriorate.

"It's a traffic nightmare that never ends for Governor Christie, according to the Quinnipiac University poll," Carroll tells KYW Newsradio.  "He was doing fine until a year ago, and then -- wham!   Bridgegate hit like a ten-car pileup on the George Washington Bridge, and he's never recovered from it!"

Carroll says the governor's overall job approval rating is at an all-time low:

"Forty-six percent approve in this new Quinnipiac University poll, 48 percent disapprove.  So, 46 to 48, the governor is negative."

Carroll says Christie also comes up negative on standard pollster issues. For example, on the economy and jobs,  42 percent approve and 52 percent disapprove of the job he is doing.   Regarding the New Jersey state budget, his approval rating is also negative, 40-53.  And on education it's 40-52.
