Driver Slams SUV Into Nicetown Home, Flees

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Police say a driver crashed their SUV into a rowhome early Friday morning in the Nicetown section of Philadelphia, then left the scene.

This happened around 2:30 a.m. at the home located on the 4400 block of North 18th Street.

The driver of the vehicle then fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction, according to police.

Police say there were people home at the time of the incident, but no injuries were reported, although the crash did result in a rude awakeneing.

"Me and my wife and children were asleep," homeowner Jermaine Beasley says, "and I heard a loud bang and my neighbors were banging on my door to let me know someone just ran into my porch, into my house. The basement was damaged as well as my front porch."

The crash reportedly caused a large pipe inside the home to burst. L&I officials will now have to check the structural condition of the home.

Police are investigating as the search for the driver continues.
