1 Injured In Wilmington Police-Involved Shooting
WILMINGTON, Del., (CBS) -- UPDATE (Jan. 21, 2015) – Wilmington Police issued a release Tuesday regarding a police-involved shooting, no longer saying officers were fired upon, but that the suspect pulled a 9MM handgun from his waistband after a struggle ensued.
Police say just before 5 p.m. on January 15, uniformed patrol officers conducted a motor vehicle stop in the unit block of Vandever Avenue in reference to a traffic violation.
During the course of the traffic stop, police say officers observed four occupants inside the vehicle. While obtaining information from the occupants, authorities say the rear driver side passenger, identified by police as 24-year-old Marvin Jones, a parole from Georgia in reference to a weapons violation, was observed to be making motions consistent with attempting to conceal an object in his waistband.
Police say the officers ordered him from the vehicle. As Jones was exiting the vehicle, police say he immediately began to struggle with officers. According to police, the struggle continued around the rear of the vehicle and onto a sidewalk where Jones allegedly removed a 9MM handgun from his waistband.
Police say with Jones allegedly having the firearm in his grasp and directed at the officers, he posed a lethal threat to the officers.
Police say whereupon, two of the three officers, given to other choice, drew their weapons discharging them at Jones, striking him in the upper torso.
Authorities say the officers immediately aided Jones, performing CPR on him until New Castle County Paramedics arrived on scene. Jones was airlifted to Christiana Hospital by Delaware State Police.
Police say during the course of the investigation also located was a loaded .45 caliber handgun in the rear passenger area of the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, police say Jones and 28-year-old Robert Carlisle, also of Georgia, were arrested and charged with numerous weapons related offenses.
Police say Carlisle remains in the Howard Young Correctional Facility in lieu of $30,000 cash bail.
Jones remains hospitalized.
Per the Wilmington Police Departmental Policy, the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave.
The investigation is ongoing and police say no further information is available at this time.

WILMINGTON, Del., (CBS) -- Swarms of officers responded to a police-involved shooting at the unit block of Vandever Avenue in Wilmington, Delaware.
What began as a routine traffic stop quickly escalated into much more shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday.
"As the officers approached the vehicle, a struggle ensued with one of the passengers at which point in time, the officers were fired upon. At least one officer returned fire," said Wilmington Police Sgt. Andrea Janvier.
One of the officers shot the 24-year-old suspect who was airlifted to Christiana Hospital, where he was in critical but stable condition on Friday.
This violence taking place across town on the heels of a pro-police rally in Rodney Square, dozens showing their support for local law enforcement officers. This rally following marches around the country spawned by protesters upset about grand jury decisions involving cases with police in Ferguson, Missouri and New York. Pastor Derrick Johnson led one here in Wilmington.
"There's an antagonistic kind of atmosphere right now and it needs to be diffused," said Pastor Johnson.
While the investigation into this police-involved shooting continues, residents like Arnold Floyd just want to get beyond the crime scene tape and back into their home safely.
"Maybe you need to go back to the old way and start patrolling and foot patrolling these neighborhoods, I don't know. If you come out here after dark now these days, you're taking a big risk," said Floyd.
Neighbors tell Eyewitness News that crime has been escalating in that community over the last several months or so.
As is standard procedure, the two officers involved in the police-involved shooting have been placed on desk duty pending the outcome of this investigation.
