Philadelphia Taxi Rider Gives Driver Nearly $1,000 Tip For Ride That Was Less Than 1 Mile

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Over the holiday season, Freedom Taxi in Philadelphia says a driver was overjoyed to receive a tip close to $1,000 on a cab ride that lasted less than two minutes.

Freedom Taxi says driver, Mr. Maiga, was working a late shift when a pedestrian flagged him down and inquired if he was having a rough night.  Mr. Maiga said he was okay, but admitted his night was a bit hectic. The taxi service says the rider told him he would "take care of him" when they arrived at the destination.

According to Freedom Taxi, once Mr. Maiga got the rider to his destination he received a big surprise, a $989.98 tip.

Mr. Maiga was shocked by the enormous tip and Freedom Taxi says he repeatedly asked the rider if he realized how much he had offered.

The rider told the cab driver he appreciated how professional he was and wanted to give him the generous tip.
