More Than 10,000 Expected to Attend Soccer Coaches' Convention in Philadelphia

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Some of the biggest names in soccer are in Philadelphia this week for the convention of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Soccer legend Pelé is headlining the star-studded guest list, which also includes former US National Team captain Landon Donovan and former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Joe Cummings, CEO of the NSCAA, says thousands of coaches from all levels will attend the convention to learn about the latest trends in training, safety procedures, and equipment.

"Whether it be headgear, whether it be shin pads, whether it be the apparel itself that's cut very differently right now from a breathability standpoint -- all of that is here for coaches to see," he tells KYW Newsradio.

The convention runs through Sunday, with demonstrations and seminars each day.  Pelé speaks Thursday and Friday. For the full schedule, visit  nscaa.com/events.
