Who Ya Got: Ohio State Vs. Oregon

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Marcus Mariota and the Oregon Ducks take on Urban Meyer's Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2015 NCAA Football National Championship game on Monday night.

According to William Hill of a Nevada Sports book, it is expected to be the most heavily bet on college football game ever.

The Line (per Bovada LV):
Oregon -7, -190
over/under: 74

Here are some notes and trends regarding tonight's big game courtesy of OddShark.com.

  • It's the first time since 2006 Rose Bowl that no SEC team in the championship game (eight seasons)
  • Three of past four title games played UNDER the total
  • Oregon has won and covered four straight bowl games
  • Oregon has also won and covered nine straight overall, facing spreads of seven or more eight times
  • Oregon is also 5-1 SU vs Big Ten schools since 2007
  • Odds Shark prediction models pick the Ducks to win this game on Monday 44-36
  • Ohio State is 8-4 ATS in its last 12 games
  • Ohio State is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
  • The total has gone OVER in 12 of Ohio State's last 13 games
  • Oregon is 5-0 ATS in its last 5 games
  • Oregon is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games

My take: As a Big Ten guy (Penn State grad), lifelong Eagles die-hard, and Mariota fan, I am deeply conflicted. I should want the Big Ten to win and I should want Mariota to struggle so his stock drops, but I can't stand Ohio State and I love Mariota. Plus, I root for who Chip roots for.

While my head says Ohio State is the play, my heart can't stand to pick against M-squared and the high-flying Ducks.

So, I say, it's a push!

Prediction: Oregon 42, Ohio State 35
