DNA Matches Lead To Charges In South Jersy Strip Mall Shooting

By Molly Daly

LIDENWOLD, N.J. (CBS) - Authorities in South Jersey have charged two men with attempted murder and other offenses in a shooting at a strip mall in Lidenwold back in April, and DNA played a critical role in the arrests.

The Camden County Prosecutor's office says it happened April 25th, as the 35-year-old victim left the strip mall in the 200 block of Gibbsboro Road.

A white Volvo pulled up behind his Kia, and two masked men came out firing with an assault rifle and a handgun. Shot in the left arm, the victim drove off in his bullet riddled car. A house across the street was also hit, but no one was hurt.

When Lindewold police found the Volvo, they combed it inside and out for evidence, which was sent to the New Jersey State Police forensic lab.

They hit pay dirt -- the Combined DNA Index System identified Richard Miller of Clementon, and Raheem Thomas of Lindenwold as suspects.

They were weren't hard to find since they were already in jail on unrelated charges. Miller and Thomas were charged last week with numerous offenses. Bail was set at $400,000 each.
